The Modern Renaissance Man

I have been dealing with the macro-questions of life and how I’d like to live mine “well”. Some of the answers are found in the books, but some remain un-answered because of their specificity. Today, I met Shubhouy, someone who I’d say has “seen things”, being a triple masters and worked numerous roles. In a conversation I was delighted to have, I found some answers and direction to life I was looking for.

  1. How do you deal with the symptom of not being an expert in any field? Does you not feel out of place in any academic setting? How relevant is a “generalist” approach to life and work today?

Focus on the skills, Be good at them - they are transferrable and you could join creative new dots across fields. You can still be a noobie at the fields.

  1. Discover self via teaching and communication. Be good at communication.

  2. Dive into fields you want to explore by working in them. The books and the required knowledge can be acquired as and when needed.

  3. Work in a start-up. DIY of a workspace. Learn how to get things done.

  4. Start your PhD late, explore the job so you don’t feel the grass is greener on the other side

  5. There needs to be an artificial insertion of a mental cap on finding happiness at a certain income - the ladder is limitless
